Dear Lexicon Subscribers,
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that the print edition of
Lexicon has suspended publication indefinitely. This will probably
not
come as a surprise to most of you due to the erratic nature of the
arrival of new issues over the past year.
I am not doing this lightly. I have tried very hard to make a go of
the
magazine, and despite support from many subscribers and many labels,
the costs associated with the magazine always seemed to out pace the
income. I never paid myself for my time, but "real" costs like printing
and postage were/are considerable. From the very beginning of
the
magazine I strove to make it a quality product, switching from simply
Xeroxing to using an offset printer. Going from black and white to
a
color cover. Using heavy white paper instead of cheaper newsprint.
I have no regrets for doing any of this. The ride, as they say, has
been fun. But the personal debts I have accumulated with the magazine
have simply become too large to go on. So I need to stop publishing
the magazine and concentrate on settling these debts.
There is a chance I will be able to bring back the magazine in an
electronic form next year, perhaps as a pdf/adobe file appended on
to a
sampler CD. If this does occur I will honor all Lexicon subscriptions.
If you wish to instead trade out your remaining issues in your
subscription by getting back issues or CDs please contact me via email
and I will let you know how many issues are left in your subscription.
Again, I want to thank everyone who has helped me all these years: the
core group of subscribers who not only renewed each year, but let me
know how much they liked the magazine; the labels, both large and
small, who brought ads and sent me CDs to review; the wonderful
writers, all of whom gave freely to the magazine; and to all the people
I met via the web.
Ninthwave Records will go on, we have lots of cool stuff planned for
the next 12 months and beyond. And the Lexicon Magazine website will
still have twice weekly news updates.
Thanks
-Dave
