Update: Big Country Singer Found Dead
(updated 3.10 pm ET 12/17/01) The former lead singer of the rock group Big Country has been found dead in the United States. Stuart Adamson went missing last month from his home  in Nashville, Tennessee.  The 43-year-old was found dead in a Hawaii hotel room  on Sunday, according to his manager Ian Grant. There are no other details at present time. We will update this page as news warrants.
Adamson led the Scottish band Big Country to worldwide sales of 10 million. Best known in the US for their debut album, The Crossing, which won 2 Grammys, the band also had 17 top 30 hits in the UK. Recent releases include a Universal 20th Century Masters Best Of set and a rarities set.

It was previously reported on BBC that Big Country singer Stuart Adamson had gone missing for  a second time:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/scotland/newsid_1700000/1700268.stm
Then the BBC now reported:The missing lead singer of Scottish rock band Big Country is believed to be safe and well inNew Orleans. The group's bassist, Tony Butler, said on Thursday evening he had heard from a "reliablesource" that Stuart Adamson, 41, was in the Louisiana city. He added: "Stuart is in New Orleans. I heard that second-hand but it's a reliable source"He's fine. He's safe and well." Adamson had been due to fly to Scotland on Thursday from his Nashville home to play twoconcerts supporting Canadian rocker Bryan Adams. The Cure: Back Faster Than Sinatra Ever Was:
It was perhaps the shortest retirement in pop music since any one of Frank's rapid comebacks. The Cure is back, or at least Robert Smith. ``The swan song was actually me ... saying the group's going to end,'' Smith told Reuters in a recent interview. ``It can go on for as long as it wants now.'' Huh?He began to consider the Cure franchise a hindrance to reaching a wider audience. Last year's tour made him realize he should keep the Cure alive for hard-core fans.
Smith was surprised that Fiction approved ``Cut Here'' for release as a single from the recent best of. It deals with the 1997 suicide of Billy Mackenzie, vocalist with the Associates, which also recorded at Fiction. ``It's not the usual pap that gets played on the radio,'' he noted. While Smith has not made any concrete plans, ``We've got a tentative idea of how things might happen next year, which will include some festivals in the summer. But everything changes with us.'' Some things will be different: Smith is reveling as a free agent and has no desire to sign another deal, having been signed to Fiction
since he left high school some 23 years ago.  In recent years he had become increasingly disillusioned with Fiction: it was acting more like a faceless major label than a small independent one but with none of the associated marketing and distribution clout that big companies offer. In the future, Smith hopes to make Cure music like he did in the old days: record singles and EP's one month and release them the
next, rather than spend six months making an album and then wait another six months for it to come out.

Two new white label vinyls are currently on massive rotation in Germany
with remixes of famous Depeche Mode tracks. One of them comes from André Tenneberger also known as ATB. he has now mixed Depeche Mode's classic "Everything Counts" into a ten minute version. The vinyl is one-sided and called "Depeche Mode vs ATB". The other white label vinyl comes from UK and contains three techno remixes.

Sweden's most successful synthwave/EBM act Covenant are currently in aStockholm studio, busy with their new album. Covenant have left their old labels Dependent, SubSpace Communications and Metropolis. Now they are ready for a huge step forward with the backing from KA2, a label connected to the major record company Sony.
" We knew that many German majors wanted us, so we went to Hamburg for two days. We met a long row of label representatives and heard what they could offer us. KA2 gave a nice impression and furthermore, they have a small indie-like organisation, although they are backed by the huge Sony/Epic " sais Joakim Montelius.
Covenant are KA2's first signing. "This gives us extra publicity as a bonus. We are very pleased so far. It's great to work with fully competent people in all parts of the organisation; from production, mixing, guest musicians to marketing, photography and
everything else." Covenant have hired a well established producer, Jacob Hellner (Rammstein, Clawfinger). "He is skilful, intelligent, cool - and Swedish. It's the first time we experiment with recordings outside our own studio. Titles, single choices,
release dates, videos... All these matters are yet to be settled."

Behind the new Repo Records German are the members of Funker Vogt, and the

Jez Porat Reports: D Mode, The Cure, The Nine
Robert Smith has revealed in an interview that The Cure's project dating from the "Pornography" era, of releasing an album made of conversations recorded as the sessions went on, is going to be released at last. Apart from the demos that are already on the website, thecure.com will also have some conversations online, including some of the "Pornography" time. The Robert Smith: "Years after, the humour of the band comes from these conversations when we remember them. Sometimes when you take alcohol or
drugs, you're convinced that what you do is great, is kind of like poetry. But in fact it's not. It's just funny but humiliating. It's the other side of the group."

Erasure have just released the follow-ups to last years Boxset 1 and 2 of their Singles anthology. Jez Porat Reports: Robert Smith- The Solo Cure?
Robert Smith hopes to complete his delayed solo album in the near future. He has been taking a break probably because of his new Greatest Hits release with the Cure and also he wants his desired guest artists to become available, rather than asking new ones. When asked about the future of The Cure in magazine Groove, he answered: - I don't think the "Greatest Hits" will be the last from The Cure, but you never know. With "Bloodflowers", the contract with our label expired. This means I feel more free than ever. We discuss if we are going to try other release models. Perhaps just singles, instead of albums.

Syntncon 2002- Line Up Change:
From Synthcon: Beborn Beton will no longer be performing at SC02. The band was
presented with the opportunity to tour the US after they had originally agreed to perform at SynthCon. While we were saddened to hear this news come down to us, we are in turn happy that this opportunity presented itself to the band. There are no harsh feelings about their decision and we are wishing them the best of luck on the tour.
Also, due to an unfortunate scheduling conflict, T.O.Y. has been dropped from the line-up as well. This was due to a lack of communication between the band members, one member told us "yes" and the other had a schedule conflict. It is bound to happen once in awhile.

News from the band directly: "ESH's remix of a Wave In Head new song 'Atom of the Moment' is almost finished. We have the tempo at 89 BPM, it has a dub drum feel, with sequenced 'cow bell' sounds over it. We put in a Giorgio Moroder style programmed bass-line, which gives it a little more power and motion. We created a cool analogue synth hit sound that leads into the various verses/choruses. Like our remix of 'Night over me', it certainly is a lot different to the original."
The band also has a new website: www.empirestatehuman.com. Look for a web-only Christmas song up soon.

Artoffact is pleased to announced its Fall release schedule is now
available, and that the artoffact website  [<http://www.artoffact.com/>] has been updated.
Psyche >> the hiding place >> NOW OUT!!
It's been available for a few weeks now without any official  announcement. Club-hits and chart-toppers "Sanctuary" and "Unbreakable" mix it up with trance-pop masterpieces "Hypnotized" and  the exclusive "Looking Glass [Trance]" as the masters of electro  release their strongest album to date.
New signing for artoffact: HEADSCAN We would like to officially welcome to the label fellow Canadians  Claude Charnier and Christian Pomerleau who form the techno duo  Headscan.  Curious types can sample exclusive Headscan  mixes on samplers from Dystopian Records and newly formed German EBM label Sonic X, but, without a doubt, everyone will be  eager to have the debut album and artoffact's twelfth release, Shaper  and Mechanist.
Netz >> werk02 >> NOW OUT!! We were a bit shocked when Netz presented the title of their follow-up album: werk02. However, upon listening it is evident that the title  once again fits the bleep-driven techno that these Germans conjure.

Science Park and Yazoo News:
Science Park has contributed a lovely remake of '80s mope-pop  chestnut "Winter Kills" to a forthcoming compilation. NOBODY'S DIARY is a Yazoo tribute CD being assembled by the team that  brought you last year's OMD tribute, MESSAGES.  Check out the  official web page at www.nobodysdiary.com for more information.  "Winter Kills" was the B-side of Yazoo's sooper-smash-hit "Don't Go",  which I remember seeing many a time on MTV as an impressionable  youth.  However, "Winter Kills" itself was unknown to me prior to this recording; I chose the song solely on its lyrical merits, and  assembled the remake over two nights here at Obscure-Disk HQ.
However, since I've more or less restructured the entire song  (removing the chorus and sprucing up the melody), it should be an  interesting and controversial addition to the tribute. NOBODY'S DIARY is set to be released in Spring of 2002.

Pet Shop Boys DVD Due:
Pet Shop Boys will release Montage, a new live video and DVD, on  November 20, 2001 with the Sanctuary Records Group. Filmed on their 1999/2000 "Nightlife" world tour, Montage is a unique concert  film featuring live footage presented simultaneously over layers of backdrop  projections and videos. The main concert footage was filmed over 2 nights in Germany; this was then  augmented with material collected from many different sources, including news  footage and filmed footage from shows on the American leg of the tour.  The  film also utilises the original projections of the show, plus parts of Pet  Shop Boys' videos and other films, including a film of a casting session for  a video. The whole film captures not only the unique nature of the "Nightlife" tour,  with its stage set designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, but the  innovation that runs through all of Pet Shop Boys' work.  Montage is a  stunning visual experience with a soundtrack of Pet Shop Boys classics,  including many of their hit singles. Amazon Has It for sale.

Gary Flanagan Reports on Electrobash!
Well, I am happy to say that Electrobash was a total success!  I had such an
incredibly good time.  The audience wasn't huge, but that didn't stop us all
from having a blast!
The audience seemed really receptive to my set...especially "Written on a
Napkin"!  :)  I can't wait until my next live show!
I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who made this show what
it was.  I don't want to sound bigheaded, but really folks, we broke new
ground in New Brunswick!  Nothing like this had ever been done before.  Many
thanks to Rod, Jenn, Troy, Alexandre, Scott, Karen, Jef, Pete, Jeremy,
Corey, Shan and everyone else whose efforts really made this work.  You guys
are the best.
If anybody would like a copy of the live recording I made of my set, I would
be happy to set you up with one.  Just let me know.  But I must warn
you...my vocals were pretty harsh!  :)  Next time I MUST use a monitor!
Take care folks and I hope to see you all at the next Bash!
Electronically yours,
Gary

Human League US Release of Secrets/ Dare Remastered: :

Ark 21 will release Secrets on October 20. No word on any bonus material. Also from the Virgin UK website:Dare Remastered--The first true kings (and queens) of synth had to be the Human League.
Hailing from Sheffield, they were one of the first electronic bands to truly break the mainstream back in the 1980s, they even managed to score a number one Stateside with the track "Human" in 1986. Their long players truly evoke the 80s synth pop sound and Dare is seen as one of the band's stand-out albums. Boasting the tracks "Don't You Want Me?" which catapulted the band to global fame, and "Love Action", Dare is  to be re-released by Virgin as part of their Super Audio Compact Disc series, on 1st October.  This 1980s classic was digitally re-mastered by Simon Heyworth at Sanctuary Studios in summer this year. The SACD listening experience is second to none. The disc contains SACD and normal CD stereo layers only, there are  no multichannel/surround mix layers.
Amazon.co.uk does not list this new version of Dare yet.

Two New Releases from Alfa-Matrix:AÏBOFORCEN / REGENERATOR
From the label press release:
If October has been a silent month for Alfa Matrix, we'll strike back stronger in November with our 2 next releases:
- First of all, on 9th November, comes the long awaited 3rd album by the
Belgian band AÏBOFORCEN. Reactions to the new material has been outstanding
so far since the new tracks have often been described as powerful, melodic
and fresh!  "Sons Palliatifs" will offer you future EBM music made in
Belgium. Be sure you will not miss that record!  Presales for the limited
Double CD edition box of the album keep on entering the office at an
unexpected rate. If things go on this way, the limited edition could be sold
out before release! Do not forget that this new album also features amongst
its 14 tracks updated remixed versions of the band's club hit "The
Shepherd's Deathline" as well as a "kill the DJ mix" of their current hit
"Twilight World" by Icon Of Coil. AÏBOFORCEN are also busy working on
remixes for REGENERATOR and CLAN OF XYMOX!

- Comes next on 23rd November, the 5th album ("War") by the Californian duo
REGENERATOR who boosted their dark synth pop tunes and made them very
club-compatible! You will soon all rush onto the dancefloor to dance to
their new smashers like "Shores Of Forever" or yet "War". A beautiful album
embodying male/female duality at its best. This Good/Evil struggle release
will also be available as a limited Double CD edition including remixes by

the quality of the lay-out. In a reaction to Q magazine Morrissey says the
sleeve artwork was "horrific". "It's so distressing when people attribute those

exclusive to this release". Both songs have been recorded in London in
September 2001 at Olympic Studios with Mark Plati. The single
marks the band's 25th anniversary and will include the following tracks: "Cut

different track listings. To please the fans that already have all the

acoustic live versions of all the tracks on the "proper" album. In North
America however, the extra CD will cost a few dollars.

be released on VHS and DVD as well.

David Gahan said lately at a press conference in Tallinn that he hopes to
start recording his solo album in January 2002. The album should be out in
the end of 2002. He already has 12 songs in demo stage. These are written
by Gahan and his friend Knox Chandler, most of them during last year, and a
couple of them earlier than that. The solo album will sound less full than Depeche Mode's. Gahan said there are a couple of musicians he'd like to work with, but
he hasn't decided anything yet.

Norwegian synth poppers Apoptygma Berzerk are working with their new album
called "Harmonizer". The first single from it will be "Until the End of the
World".A demo of it is presented at the bands web site. The album arrives on February 18, and the single on January 7. An extensive tour of both Europe and USA in support of the new album is also planned already, and will start on February 12.

Electrogarden Sold!
This from founder Mike Babbitt:
It is with great enthusiasm that I announce the that the Electrogarden torch
is being passed to Disband at Dawn Media who has acquired the website,
including the forums.  This means that the site will actually go into
development beyond the scope of what I was physically able to do.  As many
of you know the site has been in a dormant state, all but the forums which
have been booming with activity.  It is my hope that Disband at Dawn Media
will be able to move the site into a position to where it will be a thriving
ground for the electronic music scene.  I am confident that they will
succeed.
Over the next few days you may see the forum go offline for maintenance.
Please be aware that this will be very temporary.  You may see a few
revisions, and upgrades as well.
I will still be moderating the forums and will help with the site when I
can.  I just wanted to issue my deepest thanks to all of you for your
support, and for your presence on Electrogarden.  Here's to a new beginning.

The "Flood Radio Mix" of "Freelove" includes a different drum loop, and a few other effects, but overall, the track stays true to the original version.

Jez Porat Reports : And One, New Clear Sky, Echo Image, Assemblage 23
And One have released the song "Amerika Brennt" in response to the
terrorist attacks on the US.Steve Naghavi, Chris Ruiz and Gio van Oli wrote
and recorded the track in Berlin in the 72 hours following the attacks.
You can download the song in CD quality from the And One.de website.
The song is not to be understood as a commercial product and will therefor
be a free downloadable track in CD quality and full length.

The leading US Synthpop label "A Different Drum" has signed the New York
City electronic duo New Clear Sky to its continuously expanding roster of bandslast week. NCS' follow-up full-length release, entitled "Newer,
Clearer...", will be released in April 2002. In addition, ADD will release
the debut single from the album, entitled "VAST" in December 2001. The
single will include remixes from ADD electro acts. In related news Echo Image has left ADD for APB'sEU label Hard:Drive.

The latest to join the US Metropolis label is one man project Assemblage 23,
who left his label Gashed a short while ago. On November 13, Metropolis
will reissue both "Contempt" and "Failure", and some time next year they
will release A23's third release. Accession will still be A23's label in Europe, and will soon release a "Disappoint" maxi single and the "Addendum" EP which features remixes off"Failure" as well as new material. Currently, there are no plans to release these in the U.S.

New Joy Electric" Songs from the White Songbook"
In a marked departure from previous JE albums, The White Songbook features "no computers, samplers, drum machines or chords." Martin and Co. have obviously been influenced by groups like Stereolab and their own label partners Soviet. They have constructed a dense and wonderfully complex work which can be compared to Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden in that it is essentially a concept album (music-wise). Fans of the bands earlier work will be, hopefully, pleasantly surprised by the new found maturity. People who found the band's earlier work too "bubblegum" should do themselves a favor and check in on the band now. Great stuff, highly recommended.  Visit  http://www.becrecordings.com/index2.html

New Escape Club Website:
Late '80s early 90s band The Escape Club, best known in the Us for "Wild Wild West," have a new website. Also on this site is a link to a new side project for members of the band, Cloud 10. Check it out!!
"THE ESCAPE CLUB are pleased to announce the unveiling of their official website: www.theescapeclub.net. The site, which launches on Monday, September 17th features a full discography, bio, photos, video clips and much, much more."

Jez Porat: D Mode, Simple Minds, Neuropa, Covenant
Although Flood declared in the past he would not work with Depeche Mode
again after the rather difficult recording sessions of "Songs of Faith and
Devotion", it has now been revealed that the famous producer has made a
Radio Mix for the band's next single "Freelove". The news was launched on
an unofficial Depeche mode webboard that usually is very well informed. Still according to posts on this board, sources close to the band say that the "Freelove" single will include the Flood remix as well as two versions of the instrumental b-side track "Zenstation" that includes a vocal harmony performed by Martin. The release date for "Freelove" is apparently set for an October 22nd release while "Goodnight Lovers" has been moved to another date, rather than the early November date previously set. Also, despite rumours, the Exciter Tour is proceeding in Europe as scheduled.

After a period of songwriting in a secluded house on the west coast of Denmark, Covenant is now settled back in their newly renovated studio in Helsingborg, Sweden. The band plans to pre-produce their next album there during the following couple of months. A release is scheduled for early Spring 2002. Also the band informs that the Official Covenant web site is now totally off-line. The reason is that it's being completely rebuilt by the band's
New York-based graphic designer Anna Krych and the Internet team at Sony
Music in Germany. The new site will be on-line in the beginning of
September.

While making a new studio album, Simple Minds made a record with covers of their favourite tracks. It is called "Neon Lights" and will contain versions of songs by artists like Kraftwerk, David Bowie, Velvet Underground and Roxy Music. Street date: September 24.

Australian synthpop duo Neuropa has released their third real studio album
"Beyond Here and Now" late this past summer. It contains the hit single
"Bound" as well as an Erasure cover of "True Love Wars" and nine other
tracks.Their style is quite similar to Erasure with strong vocals and
melodies, but with more emphasis on thumping basses and club atmospheres. Also look for a new side project from the band soon.

Possible Police Reunion Jam?
While Sting just wrapped up a live album due out in November, reports are filtering back that Sting and Andy Summers will be joing Stewart Copland to celebrate Copland's birthday. Copland has expressed interest in a reunion, but he stresses only for something like a charity. Evidently the boxset is doing well enough still.

Jez Porat Reports: D Mode/Midge Ure, more
Depeche Mode's two compilations "The Singles 81-85" and "The Singles 86-98"
have been released in one exclusive box set, for obvious reasons named
"The Singles 81-98". Sales for this special collectors item are limited for
September to December 2001. The box set is made up of three CD:s, and no
changeshave been made in the track list.  This is the second time Mute Records re-releases "The Singles 81-85".

The third "Strategies Against Architecture" by Einstürzende Neubauten  hit the streets on September 8 (Volume I and II are still available). This is a collection of tracks from 1991 up to 2001, including some live tracks and alternate versions.

September 10 will see the release of the third single from Rammstein's
latest album "Mutter". The single "Ich Will" come with mixes of the track by
Westbam and Paul Van Dyk, as well as a CD-ROM version of a live performance of the song. The band is also paying tribute to punk-rock icon Joey Ramone by including a cover of the Ramones track "Pet Cemetery".

While their "Identifikationstörung" CD (and its ltd box edition) is due to
be released in the next days, it has been confirmed that the remix of
"Auto-Love" Mnemonic made for Neon Electronics (ex-The Neon Judgement) will be featured on "System Riviera!", the new Neon Electronics album. The
german duo have now also completed their own interpretation of label-mates Aïboforcen's  "Lobotomie matricielle" that will be opening the bonus-mini-CD available with the ltd. edition of their "Sons Palliatifs" album.

Midge Ure's live album "A Glorious Noise" has finally been released. It is a
website-only CD which can be bought from the newly-opened midgeure.com
shop. "A Glorious Noise" was recorded in Germany in 1998 and has 15 tracks including "Vienna", "Fade to grey", "Breathe", "Hymn", "Dancing with tears in my eyes" and many other tracks. Last year's Move Me is released on Koch in the US next month.

Super Audio CDs from Frankie, and Maybe Heaven 17?
RAGE HARD - THE SONIC COLLECTION [SACD]  (Reference #ZTT177SACD)
This album contains all the greatest Frankie hits remastered onto Super Audio CD. This format adds another dimension to the music through an immersive listening experience that the 5.1 multichannel mix creates. The SACD contains three discrete recordings - a stereo CD mix, stereo Direct Stream Digital (DSD) and multichannel DSD. Produced by Trevor Horn, the album used the original multi-track studio masters to remix the album to DSD 5.1 channel and stereo. These different recordings give the SACD the widest compatibility with play back on either a standard CD player or the new generation of high-resolution SACD players.

John Butcher : News from the Axis- A Stiff Little Breeze
There is a new Jon Butcher Axis CD, A Stiff Little Breeze.  It has been released on a new independent label, ATOM Records, and is being sold exclusively through Jonís web site, jonbutcher.com.
Jon tells how the new disk evolved.  "I found a tape box of things recorded in the early years and after listening to them, I was surprised how good they sounded.  The tunes werenít released at the time for various reasons, none of which were quality based, but rather politics or some other crazy reason that seemed logical at the time.
I still get e-mail, from people all over the world, who have been touched by my music and I thought that those fans would enjoy a little deeper perspective on my recording career.  Iíve also thrown in some new things that I think will surprise people.".... read more of this article

Gary Flanagan Live Date Announced:
From Gary himself :"Hello!  I wanted to tell you all that Electrobash 2001 is finally a reality!  As I mentioned before, there was a distinct possibility of a show here on  the east coast of Canada that would feature live electronic acts, and that  show is definitely going to take place this October.  I am very enthused and  excited about it. I will be performing during the night of this show, and I hope to have a  good blend of my usual synthpop tunes and a few experimental, ambient tracks  as well.  Heck, I may even throw in the odd techno tune!  :)  Other  performers on the bill include Rod Marquart (percussive, experimental warped funk), Putty (techno to tech house), Jenn Brayton (techno) and Jet  (soundscapes and social satire).  Should be a night to remember!
The show will be taking place on Saturday, October the 13th at Gallery  Connexion in Fredericton, NB.  Show starts at 8 PM.  Tickets available at
the door.  If you are going to be anywhere near the east coast of Canada
that weekend, please plan to attend.  We would love to see you there!"

Jez Porat Reports: New Order / Mission UK/Mode
Wayne Hussey-frontman of the legendary Mission and the band are currently
in studio with Dave Allen, known from work with the Cure and Depeche Mode.
The band are recording the new album, titled "Allure", which is in the final
stages of being mixed. There still isn't a confirmed date of release, but the band will tour Germany in September and October together with Him.

Peter Hook says New Order will undertake a major UK tour in October.
The band are hoping to play approximately 12 shows this autumn.
Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie may join them on some of the dates.
Hooky told NME: We're going to feature Joy Division songs, old New Order
and the new stuff...it makes for an interesting set. It's quite poignant
really."

Mute will be releasing a further two 12" singles of Depeche Mode's "I
Feel Loved". XP12Bong31 and XPL12Bong31 will give fans access to the promo tracks for the I Feel Loved single. The singles will ONLY be available via Mutebank. The three 12"'s that are released on Monday only cost a total of 12 pounds inclusive of P&P. www.mutebank.co.uk

Weirdness at its best: New Mariah is retro as all get out
Yes, that Mariah, as in Carey. You can preview her new album "Glitter" here:  http://www.mariahpreviewjukebox.com/index2.html
Now maybe it's just me, but the funkier numbers sound like 1983 all over again (The Gap Band style mind you). Plus she cover's The System's "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On." (yeah, Robert Palmer did that song too, but who cares). Amazon has the CD natch: here.

Jez Porat Reports: DMode / VNV Nation:
1.The fourth Depeche Mode "Exciter" single will be "Goodnight Lovers".
This is, if the sale of the three first singles will do well enough to
release a "non radio single" as "Goodnight Lovers". So far, the sales for
the two first singles has been excellent, and especially "I Feel Loved" has
been doing well.
According to the German Depeche Mode site depechemode.de, the German
electro-project Kreidler will make remixes of "Goodnight Lovers". At
Kreidler's web page you can read that the title for the remixes is "Born a
Lover", which is the working title for "Goodnight Lovers". "Freelove", the
third single, will be remixed by Console.

2."Futureperfect" is the name of the upcoming, fourth album by British
synthpoppers VNV Nation, out in November. The album will also
be available in a limited box set. The first single "Genesis" will be out
beforehand on August 27, to give a taste of the sound.

Just a reminder for you readers, the Club 69 remixes of "It's no good" were rejected by Martin Lee Gore for being to sped up, however the remixes became huge clubhits. Warren Cuccurullo was the guitar player in Duran Duran for 13 years with
original members singer Simon LeBon and keyboard player Nick Rhodes.
He is now putting together a band he had when he was 23. He is teaming up with former Missing Persons bandmates, dayglo-haired lead singer Dale Bozzio, who always performed with pieces of duct tape over her breasts and drummer Terry Bozzio, who he hasn't played with in 15 years. Missing Persons of course scored major chart success back in the early '80s with "Walking in
LA," "Words," "Mental Hopscotch" and "Destination Unknown" and then broke
up in 1986. street."He does have new music for the reunion. Some of this is older songs writtenwith Nick Rhodes and originally intended for Blondie and then for a solo project with Dale Bozzio.Cuccurullo is now going to use them for Missing Persons.Plus he's writing new material with Bozzio. Missing Persons played the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA on Jul 20.

finished and the mastering has been approved by Bill Leeb. The single will

Not The Alarm, Exactly...
In an exclusive interview with Lexicon Magazine, Dave Sharp from the band The Alarm explained why he has been raising the, um alarm about the new Mike Peters solo tour being billed as an Alarm tour.
"When Mike left he renounced all rights to the name, legally. And the remaining three of us have never had a problem with him touring, playing Alarm songs or even saying heís  a former member. But I got concerned when people started calling me and asking about the tour I was supposedly on. Fans need to know before they spend 20$ to see the Alarm that it wonít actually be the Alarm. Itís like going to see The Who without Pete Townsend or something. We have no intention of touring as the Alarm for the foreseeable future. "
More from our interview with Dave Sharp in the August issue of Lexicon.

"Hybrid" -- The next B! Machine album is here and it hits us  with B! Machine's trademark sound, with a masterful blend of minimalist
electronic instrumentation and melancholy moods.  The lyrics are as poetic  as ever, and you'll love listening to this album on a dark, lonely night.  This is B! Machine at its best and it will certainly hypnotize anybody who  stops what their doing long enough to listen closely to the album's
tapestry of sound and song. Order from A Different Drum

One other plug for up coming releases. I saw the new REM video yesterday on VH-1 (has it really come to that?) and must say the new song is classic REM. Maybe that is not a good thing for some, but I really liked the old REM. Their new one, Reveal, comes out May 15th.

'80s left over (well she is you know) Janet Jackson debuted at #1 this week on the US charts, selling over 600K copies of "All For You." Evidently the Carly Simon "rap" is not to be missed, kind of like a car crash you know?

Tributes, we got tributes!
Couple of reccomendations if you are in the mood to hear some excellant covers.
First, I have to reccomend our own OMD tribute "Messages." White Town, Color Theory, Ganymede, the list goes on...The set comes out May 8th and is now available online everywhere, including Amazon.com.

The Pet Shop Boys get the royal treatment on the very interesting and very good set "Very Introspective, Actually" from http://www.ferret.com/ Get a load of these bands- Momus, Athan from Spahn Ranch, Cruxshadows, Icon of Coil, David J (Tones on Tail, etc.). Wow. [release due soon]/

Just re-issued is the really cool, and diverse (in the most fun way) Kate Bush tribute, I Wanna Be Kate. Amazon.com. has it and the set features the first appearance by the Aluminum Group I ever saw.

And Don't forget Blue Order: A Tribute To New Order... Just kidding, that one was pretty boring, wasn't it?

Psyche news
They recently completed our remix of ICON OF COIL's "Everlasting" for their upcoming E.P. and Darrin has sung yet again a duet with SARA NOXX.  This time it's a new version of FALCO's "Jeanny Pt.1". Available on Scanner records when her album is released.
A few more strange remakes of other people's songs, such as RATIONAL YOUTH's "City Of Night", and The Cure's "Charlotte Sometimes" are also planned.
Finally Pscyhe's highly anticipated "Sanctuary" single was released on April 6. Run to the stores!  Included is the original version, and 2 exclusive remixes by ELEKTROHANDEL and AKANOID  plus "The Outsider 2001". The North American version of "Sanctuary" will be out later in May on Art Of Fact, and will also have a few more surprises added. Having heard an advance copy of "Sanctuary" I can vouch it is an incredible single!!!! More info: http://www.psyche-hq.de

Ninthwave Records will not release Loveboat by Erasure
Sorry, that was a (perhaps cruel) April's Fool joke. I didn't think people would believe it :-). Still, it would be nice if someone did release it!

Madonna ties with the Beatles as having the second most US Gold singles, now that "Don't Tell Me" has gone gold. She still needs 28 more to beat Elvis. I wouldn't bet good money against her.

Atomic Kittens will release a cover of the Bangles "Eternal Flame" as their next UK single. What? No "Bloc Bloc Bloc?"

Prince will release a new single "The Work, Pt 1" on Napster, as well as his own site, http://www.NPGMusicClub.com/home2000.html

Soft Cell Live- Review-
Gary writes us that- "I was at the Soft Cell gig at Ocean on the 16th and they
were brilliant. They played everything you could wish to hear without tampering with the sound. My personal highlights were 12" version of Tainted Love(going into where did our love go) and Say Hello Wave Goodbye. They played 4 new tracks from a-to-be-released album and they are pure Soft Cell in sound and feel and fitted in perfectly with the classic material. They have just took up were they left off 17 years ago and you would never know they have been away."
